Freak plays in the NFL & You

For your future reference, this is how the Elias Sports Bureau, the official statisticians for the NFL handles "freak" plays.

Laterals
When a receiver laterals to a teammate the receiving yardage continues to accumulate. The quarterback can still be awarded a touchdown after the lateral.

Example: Peyton Manning throws a 29 yard pass to Reggie Wayne, who laterals to Dallas Clark. Clark then runs the final 10 yards for a touchdown.

The scoring for the play would be:
Manning, 39 yards passing, touchdown pass
Wayne, 1 catch, 29 yards receiving
Clark, no catch, 10 yards receiving, receiving touchdown

Fumbles
If a receiver fumbles after a catch all passing a receiving yardage ends unless he recovers his own fumble downfield.

Batted Passes
If a quarterback throws a pass which is batted back to him by a defender he will be credited with both a pass completion and a pass reception. Any yards accumulated on the play are considered passing yards and receiving yards, and if he manages to score he would be credited with both a passing and receiving touchdown.

Departures/Arrivals

Due to an impending move across the country Adam will not be participating in the league this year. Kevin has changed his mind and will stay in the league, essentially taking Adam's spot.

The league hopes Adam will return next season.

Draft Complete

The 2009 draft is complete, and despite a few minor technical difficulties it was an enjoyable day.

I've replaced the 'fake' team defenses that we temporarily created so they could be seen by the draft software with the actual defenses. Not that it would be noticeable to you until the stats weren't coming in.

Please not that the first Thursday game of the year may have some delay in the live score updating as I am unsure if the configuration will have survived the move to the new web host and do not have way to test it until the games go live. I don't anticipate anything more than a short delay if there even is one.

I will be creating a "Site Tour" for the web site over the next few days to show you the layout and features of the site. All of the "broken" areas should be online by Wednesday or Thursday. Until then one thing to note is the display at the top of the page when you are. It will read "Logged In: [Your Name]" when you are logged in. When you have an unread private message or a trade it will be indicated in yellow here as well.

IE7+ Support

Now that the draft is over and the site transition is mostly complete I will be going back to make sure things are at least somewhat working in Internet Explorer 7 or 8. There will be no attempt at Internet Explorer 6 compatibility. In fact, I may very well block IE6 completely.

A Note on Trades

The league software will not allow you to propose a trade that would leave you with an illegal roster. If you want to make such a trade you will need to discuss and agree to the trade with the team(s) involved and cut players as needed before proposing the trade. To cut a player without picking one up choose Request Player for the 'None' player at the bottom of the waiver wire list.

When things are ready to go both parties should send me an email or a private message confirming the trade and I'll make sure your drop will be processed right away so you can proceed with your trade.

Please note that agreeing to this sort of trade is binding, and the trade is considered to have happened even if it has not yet been executed on the web site.

Section Names

One owner has asked me to consider renaming the Statistics section of the web site. I've given a lot of thought as to what that change could be. I've created the poll below to give you some input into what your preference is.

Please vote here

I have the ability to change the names of the sections based on which user is logged in, but I would prefer to not have to resort to that as it could create confusion in the future.
